As a graphic designer, you must have come to a point when your creative skills stopped working. We are talking about that particular moment when you try so hard yet you can’t come up with creative ideas. Every graphic designer has to encounter this disappointing feeling at least once in his life time.
In graphic designing, creativity makes the difference. Research tells us that there are some factors that harm the creativity of graphic designer. It is very important to know those harmful factors, so that they can be overcome in order to retain the creative aptitude of graphic designers. We’ve put together a list of the five top threats to your graphic design skills.

1. Low self-esteem

The biggest killer of graphic designer’s creativity is his/her low self esteem. The lack of confidence can ruin your ability to think out of the box. Remember that the fear of failure creates hurdles in the process of creating new ideas. If you don’t believe in your ideas, no one will. Keep your mind free and open to thought. This way, fresh ideas may generate in your mind and you will be able to create some innovative designs.

2. Client criticism

You might have faced much client criticism over one project. Should this be the reason to get demoralized? No! Even this criticism makes you a better designer. But, some designers are disheartened by criticisms and this disappointment begins to affect their creative skills. Criticism and praise will come and go. You need to learn to keep your head above water. Whatever be the situation, learn to take it as constructive criticism and move ahead.

3. Lack of monetary resources

Sometimes graphic designers come up with brilliant ideas but they cannot execute them because of tight budgets. Financial difficulty is another big factor that can harm the designer’s ability to think efficiently. With restricted monetary resources, it is difficult to materialize your creative ideas. Sometimes, your client provides certain amount of budget within which you are required to sum up your design. This can be one of the factors that restrain your talent to come out with bang.

4. Tough goals

Sometimes, tough goals become one of factors that ruin the designer’s ability to think out of the box. A targeted approach towards work will motivate the designer to get motivated while an unnatural level and far-fetched goals will dampens the designer’s zeal and enthusiasm to generate fresh ideas. Unreasonable deadlines harm the designer’s creativity to a great extent. His/her capacity to think out of the box is restrained.

5. Working too hard

Dedication towards the job is good, but being a workaholic has its own pros and cons. You may be able to impress your client with your non-stop dedication and labour. You must keep in mind that this over-working will take a toll on your creativity. You may harm your long-term efficiency.
Well, only those who can see beyond the present are the ones who survive in the competitive industry of graphic designing. So, take a deep breath and relax before you start your next project.
