The Significance of Digital Marketing in a Competitive Market

There is no doubt that in today’s changing world economy, business has taken a drastic turn from what many of us would consider the norm.  In the past 20 years, we have seen the emergence of amazing technological advances.  Only a few short years ago, we were all atwitter about the Blackberry, the MP3 or the then a new gadget to keep you from getting lost, the GPS.  Everybody had to have one.  Until the emergence of Netflix and YouTube, people were happy to plop down money to watch cable TV.  TV has even changed in just a few decades from Black and White to Color to Digital and now to HD.  The infamous MAC now boasts the amazing retina display that many people are drooling over.

Because of these new advances, people are now getting their information in different ways.  They are not relying on the newspaper delivery at your front door, nor are they watching TV in the traditional way.  So, when a digital agency is considering their marketing plans, it would be in their best interest to consider changing their means of informing their customers about the products or services.

Never before in the history of communication has information been so readily available.  Digital Marketing is the future of today’s business world.  Businesses that are not keeping up with the world’s shift to these new forms of media will certainly fall behind in the race to gain market share.  It is only a matter of time before the ways of old gradually disappear from view the same way that the old LPs gave way to cassette tapes which were overtaken by CDs, MP3s and so on.  The digital age is here to stay and a company that is still marketing in the past will certainly get left behind.

Why is it digital moving up at such a rapid rate?  One of the main reasons for this is the cost.  The rising cost of newspaper or magazine advertising coupled with fewer and fewer people using those forms of media does not compare with the cost and reach of digital forms of social media like Facebook, twitter or email.  The time it takes to get your message out to millions of people can be only a matter of seconds in relation to the expense of TV or print ads which are not only expensive but rely on the hope that people will be sitting in front of the TV at the precise time that your ad appears.  It is no contest.

But putting all costs aside, one of the main reasons that Digital Marketing is the way of the future is the simple fact that with each progressive day more and more people are using it.  The simple fact that you can get your information now while sitting in traffic or on the bus stop is an amazing feat in and of itself.  No longer do people have to wait until the six o’clock news to learn what is happening today.  They can get what they need right on their Smartphones or iPads.

So, if you are in business and you are weighing the pros and cons of Digital Marketing, consider the fact that if you ride a wave it can carry you a long way with little effort on your part, but if you try to stand against it, it can easily knock you down.  Digital Marketing is like a wave that is coming at you.  Will you take the ride?
