Brands capture markets. It is with your brand that your audience, who are your customers or potential customers associate with. It's how you present your brand that distinguished your product or service from competitors and what convinces your customers to purchase what your company has to offer.

There are several stages that comprise brand building in order to capture markets. These stages include:
1. Creating Brand Image and Personality – Your brand image and personality will define the look and feel of the brand. This is where the visual aspects come to play. The brand name, the brand logo, and all its attributes must be able to embody the company, the product, or the service that it represents.

2. Defining your market – Part of brand building is to know the market that you want to capture. Brands are used to communicate to audiences in forms advertising and promotions. Knowing which audience you need to communicate to will enable you to come up with a strategic communication plan that will work best for your objectives.

3. Provide touch points for customers – Your customers would want to know how to reach you and get in touch with you. Your brand is a representation of your company, product, or service. Once a potential customer chooses to associate himself or herself with your brand, you need to be able to provide tangible ways on how they can reach you. Corporations for instance would need to be able to provide various channels on how customers can reach them, either via an office, a website, or retail shop. Your product’s availability in various trade channels is a form of a touch point or how you send proposals to offer your services is another form.

4. Let your customers experience your brand – Brands are experiential. Unlike products, brands are not tangible. It is to be experienced in order to be appreciated. The more potential customers learn and know about a brand, the more likely it is to be recognized and associated with. Once brand experience relates to a potential customer, the more likely it is that this potential customer purchases products or services represented by the brand. It is also through brand experience that brand loyalty is developed.

A brand embodies the attributes that a company, product, or set of services represents. It is how a product or service is experienced by the customers or how it is perceived by potential customers. Brand building activities promote awareness and enables companies to capture new markets.
